Stubbs Mugs is a small, proudly independent business based on the beautiful North Norfolk coast, known for producing the famous “I’d Rather Be…” range of fine bone china mugs. Since 2004, they’ve grown to offer over 3,000 unique titles, with witty, charming designs that appeal to customers across the UK and beyond.

Their mugs are stocked by gift shops, garden centres, hotels, and independent retailers, and the business has built a loyal customer base thanks to its quality craftsmanship and playful, personal touch.

Requirements

Stubbs Mugs needed a complete overhaul of their website to support their next stage of growth. The existing platform didn’t offer the flexibility or modern functionality required — particularly around customisation and managing their extensive product range.

Their goals included:

  • A clean, modern WooCommerce website that was easy to navigate and manage
  • A mug customiser tool to allow customers to personalise products with live previews
  • A bespoke 3D renderer to show each custom design in real time
  • Improved order handling, product filtering, and trade account support
  • A mobile-friendly experience that matched the charm and quality of their brand

Solution

We designed and developed a brand-new WooCommerce website for Stubbs Mugs that’s fast, intuitive, and packed with functionality. At the heart of the site is a custom-built mug customiser, which lets customers personalise their mugs and see the design in real time thanks to a bespoke rendering engine we developed specifically for this project.

The design complements the Stubbs brand — clean and characterful, with a strong focus on usability across desktop and mobile. We structured the product catalogue to handle thousands of SKUs, added smart search and filtering tools, and built a seamless checkout flow for both retail and trade customers.

Behind the scenes, we set up a powerful yet easy-to-use admin interface, giving the Stubbs team full control over products, orders, and custom content without needing developer support.
